This position manages the Tobacco Prevention and Control Program. This position is responsible for supervising staff; overseeing the budget; planning, implementing, and evaluating the program (based on available data and best practices); writing program and funding proposals to federal and other agencies; overseeing contracts (including the TPCP's marketing campaign, quit line, and external evaluation efforts); working collaboratively with diverse and numerous external and internal partners to achieve outcomes; and communicating program successes to a variety of stakeholders.
 
Minimum qualifications include:
  • bachelor's degree in health education, public health or related field
  • knowledge of management/supervisory principles
  • at least 2 years demonstrated experience supervising professional staff
  • skill and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • knowledge of budget development and management
  • knowledge of funding agencies for public health programs
  • ability to negotiate, develop and monitor contracts
  • knowledge of social marketing theory and processes, including principles to target specific audiences; ability to tailor programs and messages appropriately to maximize behavior change
  • skill and experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating public health programs
  • skill and experience in developing program and/or project plans
  • ability to use public health data to describe population health problems
  • knowledge and understanding of the principles of effective tobacco prevention and cessation strategies
  • ability to work with partnerships or coalitions with diverse membership
  • skill in writing reports
  • strong interpersonal, communication, and oral presentation skills

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a Master's Degree in Health Education, Public Health or Public Administration.
