Brigham Young University Faculty Position Announcement: Core Public Health

Assistant or Associate Professor level applicants are being recruited to join the Department of Health Science at Brigham Young University, with demonstrated skills in one or more core public health disciplines (e.g., biostatistics, environmental health, epidemiology, or health promotion). Preferred applicants are faculty whose preparation, research or experience prepares them to teach two or more core courses (i.e., Hlth 100, 310, 311, 322, 330, 345) and other discipline specific courses (i.e., Hlth 432, 439). Qualifications include: The doctoral degree (DrPH, PhD, etc) or relevant terminal degree in health promotion, public health, or related behavioral/social science is required. A MPH degree is preferred. A record of peer-reviewed scholarship applying quantitative or qualitative skills to a public health problem, or a specific plan to carry out interdisciplinary research is expected. Additionally, preference will be given to applicants with experience or expertise in the following priority areas: a) Applied public health practice at the community level in the US and other countries; b) Demonstrated experience in global health, program planning and evaluation, community and individual behavior change, sociopolitical processes, organizational and systems change, and/or evidence-based interventions to promote health; c) Accrued working relationships with diverse populations (e.g. racial/ethnic, cultural, persons with disabilities, underserved, etc.) and have an interest in performing research or service among these populations; d) Capacity to secure external funding to support research and training; and e) Employment in public health or health promotion practice.

Responsibilities include: teaching undergraduate courses in the public health major; teaching graduate courses in the MPH program; conducting and publishing research; serving in professional associations; and serving on department, college, and university committees.

The Department of Health Science is housed within the College of Life Sciences. Two undergraduate degree programs are offered in the department as well as the MPH degree. The department is composed of 15 full-time faculty members and numerous part-time and adjunct faculty members. Student mentoring, including diverse research projects in many parts of the world, is an important activity within the department.
