SLCHD - "We Were Here"

This year, Salt Lake County Health Department, University of Utah, and Salt Lake County Library Services are partnering to commemorate World AIDS Day, which is December 1, by offering three free screenings of the acclaimed documentary We Were Here.

The film, which appeared at both the Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals, illuminates the profound personal and community issues raised by the AIDS epidemic as well as the broad political and social upheavals it unleashed. It provides insight into what society could, and should, offer its citizens in the way of medical care, social services, and community support. The New York Times called We Were Here “heartbreaking and inspiring.”

The screenings will be held:

Tuesday, December 3                           Thursday, December 5
7:00 p.m.                                              2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. (parking free after 7)
Viridian Event Center                             Olpin Student Union, University of Utah
8030 South 1825 West                           200 South Central Campus Drive
West Jordan City                                   Salt Lake City

The Viridian Event Center will also display local panels from the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt, courtesy of the Utah AIDS Foundation and the Northern Utah AIDS Coalition, and county library branches will feature World AIDS Day commemoration displays until December 7.

This is a great opportunity for students to participate in local public health efforts, network, and learn about key public health issues and community mobilization. Please encourage your students to attend, and pass this along to any other professors or friends who might be interested.

Thank you! We hope to see you all there!
