Position:
Research Manager, Thrasher Research Fund
Purposes
The Thrasher Research Fund fulfills Christ's special
admonition to care for children by providing grants for research that will
improve child health worldwide. The Fund's Research Managers interface with
grantees interested in receiving funding, manage applications through the
Fund's external peer review process and provide oversight on funded projects.
The Fund maintains a lean staff, which requires the Research Managers to
adapt to additional responsibilities outside their primary job description,
such as marketing, website maintenance, budgets and multimedia content
creation.
The Fund's proximal customers are scientists and physicians
seeking research funding, peer reviewers, and members of the Fund's
Scientific Advisory and Executive Committees. These customers expect the
Research Managers to be well-trained in research methodology, to be familiar
with the large spectrum of pediatric health challenges and corresponding
research priorities, to help find solutions to problems that arise in the
design or conduct of research, and to be proficient at grant management. The
customers appreciate the efficient, transparent and timely communication for
which the Fund has developed an excellent reputation.
Qualifications
Master's degree or higher in a health-related
field
Demonstrated experience with medical research design and ability
to evaluate weakness in designs
Understanding of children's health
issues and relevant research priorities
Effective verbal and written
communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to
productively interact with researchers from a wide variety of ethnic,
cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds
Availability to
travel for domestic and international site visits
Ability to work in a
team environment and adapt to fill new roles in the team structure
A
working knowledge of epidemiology and biostatistics
Responsibilities

30% Supervise an assigned number of current research
projects. Stay informed of research and financial progress, conduct
site visits, troubleshoot problems to adapt research design to changing
environments.

30% Oversee each assigned project through the review
process. Identify reviewers, interact with investigators, summarize
opportunities, strengths and weakness of applications for the Advisory and
Executive Committees.

15% Participate in the initial stages of review of a
project. Screen Concept Papers for the Fund's Committees.
·
15% Represent the Thrasher Research Fund to prospective
grantees. Field inquires about the Fund and proposed studies' general
"fit' to the Fund. Participate in outreach efforts including site visits
to meet and direct prospective grantees.

10% Supervise the completion of special projects as
assigned. Examples include production of a Biennial Report, website
maintenance, strategic planning, monitoring of policies and procedures,
overseeing fund budgets, and planning outreach events at medical conferences.
Worthiness Qualification
Must be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints and currently temple worthy.
