Health Interviewer Job


We are currently searching for a part-time Health Interviewer (position description below). The position could either be based at ourSpringfield site or our Worcester site. The position could also be funded as a graduate student Research Assistant position.

HEALTH INTERVIEWER (Part Time)

The Interviewer will conduct in-person interviews for Estudio PARTO, a 5-year National Institutes of Health funded postpartum lifestyle intervention based at 2 sites: Baystate Medical Center in Springfield and UMASS Worcester. The overall goal of the study is to reduce type 2 diabetes in Hispanic/Latina women with a history of abnormal glucose tolerance during pregnancy. Under the direction of the study's Project Manager and Intervention Coordinator, the Research Assistant will meet with enrolled prenatal care patients during pregnancy and up to 12 months postpartum. Visits will be conducted at Baystate, at a Springfield community center, or at the patient’s home depending on participant preference and will be in English or Spanish. Telephone follow-up interviews may also be scheduled. Training will be provided.

Responsibilities:
  • Interview participants about their diet, physical activity, stress, sleep, breastfeeding and other behaviors using structured interview forms
  • Assess blood pressure and administer pregnancy tests during scheduled interview sessions
  • Collect, record, and manage data
  • Attend regular staff meetings and trainings
  • Communicate and collaborate with research team members and medical personnel
  • Perform other functions/duties as requested
  • Protect the patients' rights and confidentiality, as prescribed by funding, regulatory and treatment guidelines

Qualifications:
  • Interviewing experience
  • Professional interpersonal communication skills working with diverse populations; ability to communicate effectively in person
  • Demonstrated dependability, tact, patience, ability to follow instructions
  • Excellent organizational skills; competency in filing, documenting, and maintaining confidential client records
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Computer literacy and word processing skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office, e-mail, and Internet use
  • Bachelors degree or higher level of education
  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and reliable transportation
  • May be a graduate student / funded as a Research Assistant position

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
