Manager for the Hep B Free: Santa Clara County Campaign
Hepatitis B and liver cancer are the greatest health disparities experienced by the Asian and Pacific Islander population. In an effort to eliminate that disparity the Hep B Free: Santa Clara Campaign was launched. This campaign seeks to unite community and medical stakeholders to promote awareness of hepatitis B. This will be accomplished by:
1. Building public and healthcare provider awareness about the importance of testing and vaccinating Asians and Pacific Islanders for hepatitis B
2. Promoting routine hepatitis B testing and vaccination within the primary care setting
3. Providing access to medical management for chronically infected individuals.
Hep B Free: Santa Clara County is a county-wide initiative launched by the Asian Liver Center at Stanford University, Asian Americans for Community Involvement, the Santa Clara County Public Health Department and AsianWeek Foundation in conjunction with other community, health provider, and legislative partners.
Job description for Program Coordinator
Hep B Free: Santa Clara County seeks a self-directed and outcome-oriented Campaign Manager, capable of bringing together, focusing, and maximizing resources while directing the collaboration and its partners in fulfilling campaign goals and reaching the campaign’s full potential. This would include providing leadership toward the achievement of the HBFSCC mission, strategy, and its annual goals and objectives. In addition, the Campaign Manager will serve as a public advocate, and be visibly involved with citywide and community issues relevant to HBFSCC’s mission. The manager will work closely with the steering committee and key stakeholders including hospitals, physician groups, community organizations and local governments. The manager will be responsible for communication strategies and materials, planning screening and educational events and working closely with the media to increase public awareness.
Hep B Free: Santa Clara County is a fiscally sponsored project of VMC Foundation, which is an EEO employer.
[The initial duration of the contract will be six months, with possibility of extension contingent upon performance and funding.]
This position will be supported by the steering committee.
Job Duties:
• Contribute to and implement strategic thinking, planning and decision-making to build on Campaign’s achievements and continue progress to achieve HBFSCC’s goals.
• Work with the Steering Committee to ensure that the organization has a long-range strategy for achieving its mission, and making consistent and timely progress on achieving its goals.
• Lead the community outreach and public awareness efforts of the campaign. Plan, approve, and oversee outreach events such as educational workshops, outreach tabling, and educational material dissemination
• Attend steering committee and community action board meetings. Prepare meeting summaries and follow up on action items. Secure locations for community action board meetings
• Actively engage parties to co-sponsor educational or screening events, or other campaign-wide efforts
• In conjunction with the steering committee, develop and execute a physician and healthcare provider outreach strategy to promote regular hepatitis B screenings across the county
• Maintain list of campaign-approved speakers and assist hospitals and other healthcare organizations to plan and host continuing medical education (CME) events
• Facilitate planning between different campaign parties to provide regular free hepatitis B screening events in the community for the underserved
• Work closely with clinic partners to ensure a healthy flow of clinic traffic and low cost vaccination availability to the underserved
• Monitor and collect screening results from screening partners on a monthly basis.
• Manage and recruit volunteers to support various campaign initiatives and activities
• Write grants to solicit funding for the campaign
• Manage website and social media efforts
• Provide regular financial updates to Steering Committee and fiscal sponsor.
• Maintain and strengthen working relationships with partner organizations, community groups and organizations.
• Work with partners to maintain, strengthen, expand, and diversify participation of campaign partners and supporters.
• Administer HBFSCC project funds.
• Provide leadership and guidance to monthly planning meetings and working groups in their various activities, including evaluation, marketing, community education, provider education, and fundraising.
• Must be available for night/weekend meetings and events
• Must be able to travel within the county
• Other duties as assigned.
REPORTS TO HBFSCC Steering Committee who are also responsible for all hiring and dismissal decisions.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required. MPH or MPA preferred
Excellent organizational skills
Experience in community organizing
Excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Compensation:
This is a full time contractor position, no benefits.
