Intermountain Healthcare Fieldwork Opportunity

Project Title: Community Health Needs Assessment for Intermountain Healthcare

Project Summary: Intermountain Healthcare’s mission to help people live the healthiest lives possible is
best realized with a comprehensive understanding of the health needs of the community served by its
hospitals, clinics and health plans. Intermountain is committed to routinely assessing the community’s
health needs through a comprehensive assessment process that both engages members of the community
and analyzes the most current health status information. The 2016 Community Health Needs Assessment
(CHNA) will inform Intermountain leadership, public health partners, and community stakeholders of the
most significant health needs in our community and stimulate Implementation Strategies that engage
Intermountain and community resources to address those needs throughout the Intermountain enterprise.

Intern Requirements/Skills to Gain: The selected intern will provide direct assistance to the Strategic
Planning & Research and Community Benefit Departments by:
  • Partner with state and local health departments and other key stakeholders in Idaho and Utah to better understand the perceived health needs in our communities.
  • Coordinate, attend, transcribe, and analyze community input meetings to create a report of findings.
  • Design, implement and analyze a needs assessment specific to Intermountain hospitals and clinics in Idaho.
  • Assist in data collection, analysis and reporting of selected health indicators.
  • Assist in the dissemination of findings and make recommendations for implementation strategies that will address the identified needs.
  • Other tasks as assigned within design and implementation of a community health needs assessment to drive clinical goals.

This is an unpaid internship. Hours per week are flexible and dependent upon the student’s work pace and
project requirements. Travel is required but all associated costs will be covered.
Prerequisites/Preferences:
  • Current MPH student
  • Knowledge of or experience with qualitative research, data collection, and analysis.
  • Experience working with confidential information / HIPAA.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (written, visual and verbal).
  • Strong organization skills; detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently.

Timeframe: Summer 2015. Start date April 20, 2015 (this date is flexible).
