Job Description: |
Under limited supervision, the Physical Activity Coordinator provides leadership in the planning, developing, coordinating, and implementing comprehensive policy, systems, and environmental change and physical activity strategies to prevent obesity and chronic diseases. The Physical Activity Coordinator serves as a key member of the state’s childhood obesity team supporting community-based efforts to increase physical activity. The Physical Activity Coordinator provides leadership in the design and implementation of evidence-based physical activity programs. The Physical Activity Coordinator will lead policy efforts in schools and the community to increase physical activity among Georgia’s children. The Coordinator will work to increase the opportunities to be physically active and develop system approaches assisting communities in developing safe walkable environments and schools with incorporating physical activity into their daily schedules, and before and after school. Specific duties will include providing and promoting the use of evidence-based physical activity programs for schools and communities; establishing and maintaining partnerships with state and local agencies for the implementation of policy, system, and environmental change strategies for increased physical activity among Georgia’s children and families. |
Minimum Qualifications: |
Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Exercise and Sport Science, Health Promotion, Public Health or a related field and three years experience performing work related to area of assignment Or Master's degree in a related field and one year experience performing work related to area of assignment OR Seven years experience performing work related to area of assignment. Note: Some positions may require licensure. |

Agency Specific Qualifications and/or Preferred Qualifications: AGENCY SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS Completion of a Bachelor's degree AND three (3) years of human service program planning, evaluation, or professional-level delivery experience OR Completion of a Master's degree AND one (1) year of experience in human service program planning, evaluation, or professional-level delivery experience OR Seven (7) years of human service program planning, evaluation, or professional-level delivery experience Note: Some positions may require licensure Preference will be given to applicants who in addition to meeting the entry qualifications possess the following: • Master’s Degree in Public Health or another related area of study
• Three (3) years of experience in planning, developing, coordinating, and implementing comprehensive policy, systems, and environmental change physical activity strategies to prevent obesity and chronic diseases
• Demonstrate functional knowledge of best-practices in physical activity and obesity prevention • Three (3) years of experience in partnership development and coalition building • Two (2) years experience in public speaking • Keen written and verbal communication skills
Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Administration rules regarding salary.
This position is pay grade 15 on the SWD Salary plan. DPH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degree, diploma, licensure, etc. The candidate selected for this position may be subject to pre-employment drug screening and a criminal background check.
