HELP International

HELP International is currently seeking summer interns in Hyderabad, India. We are specifically targeting Public Health students and professionals. We believe the rigorous curriculum will have prepared students to competently execute the duties and tasks required by our organization in the field. Their skills and knowledge will complement those offered by student participants who have already committed to volunteering and interning in Hyderabad, India. These students are from across the nation completing both their Bachelor's and Masters' in community and global health, dietetics, advertising, international relations, business, sociology, social work, and engineering, to name a few. Their skills will contribute to the successful execution of HELP projects and those executed in conjunction with Peace Corps, LEPRA Health, and many other international organizations. Interns will have the unique opportunity to coordinate volunteers, act as a liaison between the country directors, community partners and the executive office, and most importantly, spearhead and lead projects. Of course, this is also an excellent opportunity for the augmentation of cross-cultural understanding. Health and Wellness Outreach Internship


BACKGROUND:
The International Rescue Committee is the leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. This commitment is reflected in well-planned resettlement assistance, global emergency relief, rehabilitation, and advocacy for refugees. The resettlement office in Salt Lake City, Utah provides services to approximately 400 such refugees.

SCOPE OF WORK:
Working closely with the Health and Wellness Outreach Program Coordinator, the intern will be responsible for maintaining close relationships with refugee youth in order to assess and address identified needs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: tracking refugee youth progress in summer educational credit recovery programs, meeting with youth to assess their needs, working with youth to design programs that support their interests and attending planned program sessions with the youth. This is a great opportunity for candidates interested in education, social work, international relations, or public health. The intern must be available approximately 10 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible, however the intern will be required to attend all health sessions that they will be planning and organizing.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist Health and Wellness Outreach Coordinator in meeting with refugee youth and assessing their needs and designing program components that address their needs.
2. Maintaining weekly contact with refugee youth involved in the program and tracking their progress throughout the summer.
3. Maintain contact with administrators of additional programs that the youth may be involved in to record their progress and identify areas in which they need additional support.
4. Assist with program assessment and documentation.
5. Offer feedback and ideas, as appropriate
6. Other related duties as assigned


REQUIREMENTS:
1. Previous experience with youth, health and education preferred
2. Committed to at least 3 months working a minimum of 10 hours a week.
3. Reliable and flexible with excellent communication skills
4. High level of comfort speaking in front of small to mid-sized groups
5. Willing to learn about IRC history, philosophy, global work, and local efforts
6. Adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies
7. Willing to learn about cross-cultural communication and ethnic backgrounds of clients

The Division of Global HIV/AIDS (DGHA), CDC, in Namibia, announces the availability of a position for an Epidemiologist or Medical Officer/Epidemiologist based in Windhoek, Namibia, Civil Service GS-601/602, Grade 13-14/Commissioned Corps O6.

The duties of the position will be to:

· Serve as a Technical Advisor to the Namibian Ministry of Health and Social Services (MOHSS) in assisting in the improvement and expansion of effective diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of tuberculosis, with particular emphasis on HIV-related tuberculosis;

· Provide medical and epidemiological advice, consultation, and human capacity building as an international expert in TB/HIV as it applies to countries with a high TB and significant TB/HIV burden; and with particular emphasis on the Three-I’s (intensified TB case finding, isoniazid preventive therapy, and infection control).

· Guide the further development of CDC-Namibia TB and TB/HIV program implementation strategy and implementation science (operations research), focusing on technical support to the Namibian National TB and HIV/AIDS Programs, addressing TB/HIV program priorities, particularly infection control, and addressing operational research questions where there are either national or global gaps in knowledge;
· Provide leadership, direction and technical expertise to the Namibian MOHSS National TB and HIV Programs, non-governmental organizations, universities, medical institutions and other participating agencies in ensuring the successful implementation of the CDC/PEPFAR-supported Namibia TB and TB/HIV program implementation and research strategy, in close liaison with the CDC Divisions of Global HIV/AIDS and TB Elimination, and in coordination with the Namibia PEPFAR program;

· Develop protocols, initiate and implement operational research studies, analyze routine and study data through statistical methods, and disseminate program data and study results through scientific journals, periodic reports and public presentations as well as designing and conducting additional special epidemiologic studies as warranted;

· Serve as co-project officer for the TB/HIV activities under cooperative agreements with the Namibia MOHSS through which CDC is supporting TB/HIV program activities and operational research.
