Project Description	The goal of the Utah Refugee Health Program is to “Foster community health partnerships with those serving refugee populations through culturally appropriate health screening, education and referrals.”  By coordinating activities between local providers, resettlement agencies, local health departments, DWS, Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and ORR, the Utah Refugee Health Program facilitates and promotes health programs and services that are culturally and linguistically appropriate. This project will provide direct assistance to Refugee Health Program by: Developing a Refugee Health Resource Guide Conducting data analysis (dental utilization) Creating cultural backgrounders and program factsheets Assisting with data entry Other tasks as assigned
Prerequisites	Master level student in health promotion, public health, social work, or related field Knowledge of refugee resettlement process Familiar with health care system in Utah Ability to communicate effectively (written, visual and verbal) Strong organization skills; detail oriented Ability to work independently

BACKGROUND: The BeWise program offers free breast and cervical cancer screenings and cardiovascular disease examinations to mid and low-income, underinsured, or uninsured women ages 50-64 years old. It is designed to provide these women with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities to improve their diet, physical activity, and other life habits to prevent, delay or control cardiovascular disease and other chronic conditions.

SCOPE OF WORK:Women that participate in the BeWise program have several additional measurements taken during their annual breast and cervical exam. Measurements include: height, weight, BMI, cholesterol, blood pressure, glucose, and A1C (if they are diabetic). After the initial exam, the client meets with a lifestyle coach and together, they work to develop a healthier lifestyle plan for the client. The purpose of this position will be to provide lifestyle coaching for women in the BeWise program both face-to-face in the clinic and follow-up via telephone. Staff will also be asked to provide classes on nutrition or physical activity for the participants in the BeWise program.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Junior or Senior student in one of the following areas: Public Health, Community Health, Health Education and/or Health Promotion. Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred
• Must be a fluent Spanish speaker (approx. 60% clientele are Spanish speaking)
• Must be able to effectively communicate with a diverse group of women ages 50 – 64
• Must be comfortable leading nutrition and beginner level exercise classes
• Must have a reliable means of transportation (to go to office, clinics, and classes)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Provide lifestyle coaching in improving health behaviors
• Assist women in setting SMART goals as part of the lifestyle coaching session
• Working knowledge of the Health Belief Model, Transtheoretical Model, Ecological Model
• Communicate effectively face-to-face and via telephone Provide basic health information and referral to supplemental resources
• Enter client information into a computer database
• Provide classes on basic nutrition and beginner level exercise to BeWise participants

The Department of Veterans Affairs’ Healthcare System is the premier provider of care in America today offering an outstanding learning environment for the fellow.  Over the past decade, VA health care has been highlighted as “The Best Care Anywhere” and touted for its electronic health record system.  VA’s Million Veteran Program is creating a genomic database for research to facilitate disease prevention, personalized therapies, and population surveillance. During the experience, the fellow will work primarily from the network office of the Desert Pacific Healthcare Network, located in Long Beach, California, but will rotate through various departments of the five medical centers located within the Network. The fellow will also have opportunities to complete rotations through other components of the health system offering access to academically-affiliated medical centers, community-based outpatient clinics, ambulatory surgical centers, domiciliaries, long-term care services, electronic health record system, research centers, telehealth programs, and external rotations such as Veterans Benefits Administration, or a neighboring non-VA health care facility. After completing these rotations, the fellow will complete a diverse range of management tasks and projects in the fellow’s areas of interest, as well as in areas of the organization’s needs.

Throughout their term, the fellow will report to the Network Director and the Deputy Network Director. The mentoring experience our program offers is a meaningful professional relationship with experienced senior leaders and guidance in gaining the knowledge and skills essential to the fellow successfully developing his or her own management and leadership style.

The one year program will begin no sooner than May 1, 2013, though the actual start date is negotiable. Job Description:
Under limited supervision, the Physical Activity Coordinator provides leadership in the planning, developing, coordinating, and implementing comprehensive policy, systems, and environmental change and physical activity strategies to prevent obesity and chronic diseases. The Physical Activity Coordinator serves as a key member of the state’s childhood obesity team supporting community-based efforts to increase physical activity. The Physical Activity Coordinator will lead policy efforts in schools and the community to increase physical activity among Georgia’s children. Alabama Doctoral Program

The Department of Health Science, The University of Alabama (UA) in Tuscaloosa, AL is seeking health education graduate assistants at the doctoral level.  This is an exciting time at UA.  The university is in an unprecedented period of growth and accomplishment.  Incoming graduate assistants will join a department that has recently added new faculty members.

The Ph.D. program in Health Education and Health Promotion is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and experiences to become leading practitioners and researchers in health education and health promotion.  Many graduates of the UA doctoral program are currently serving as health education faculty members at the university level.  The program combines the health education and public health resources of academic units from UA and The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).

Graduate assistantships offer an annual stipend, tuition waiver and health insurance coverage.  Assistantships are awarded on a competitive basis.  Graduate assistants will have responsibilities related to the teaching, research and service missions of the Department of Health Science.
